PORTLAND TRIP CANCELLED

Greetings,
It is with great sadness that I announce that our planned trip to the Portland Junior Rose Festival Parade this year is cancelled. The Rose Festival Committee is postponing all Rose Festival events until deeper in June or later. At the same time discussions with our superintendent; Director of Secondary Learning; Mr. Lee; plus myself we all came to a consensus that an out of state trip this year would not be advisable due to current health concerns. The KMS Band Booster Executive Board officers are also in agreement.
this is the first time since 1996 we have not taken an overnight spring performance tour. For what it is worth Victoria cancelled their Victoria Day’s Festival and Parade (same weekend as Vikingfest) for the first time in 122 years of operation as well as Disneyland suspended all operations. I am thankful we did not have travel plans for either one of those two trips this year. Vikingfest is evaluating their status and I have not heard back yet from Bremerton regarding my inquiries of their plans. More information to come.
Hope everyone is safe and well. The last three days I have been working in the band room on grades and other projects before any potential shelter in place decision is made. Continue practicing as you can and I will send some line links for resources. next week.

OMEA Solo and Ensemble

From Mr. Haag:

The next big event is the OMEA Solo & Ensemble contest that we are hosting here at KMS on Saturday 23 FEB. We have 305 entries representing over 500 students and about 200-300 parents/family members coming from South Kitsap, Mason County, Bainbridge Island and all points in between. We need help running the event.

We have 12 judges hired, Ted Brown Music will be here for repairs, and the Navy Band Northwest Woodwind Quintet will be performing a noontime concert in the library. We need to have parents help supervise as door guards for the adjudication rooms and supervisors for the aux gym/commons area, library, and setup/cleanup crews. It will be the largest musical event happening in Kitsap County that day.

[Here is] a digital copy of the JOB SIGNUP SHEETS I showed students in classes yesterday. Some students and parents have already signed up. These are the blank sheets so you can see what and where the need is. If you are able and willing please reply to me via email. Thanks!

An updated schedule of when students are playing is here KMS & KHS SCHEDULE 2019 . Students who help out will receive extra credit, and we will be feeding all parent and student helpers free pizza and snacks for lunch that day.

Trip to Victoria!

Hello our wonderful Band Families!
As you may have heard, the Big Trip is in May! Below are some details that will help you plan.
What and WhereKMS Marching Band Trip to Victoria, BC to their annual parade.
When: Saturday, May 18 – Monday, May 20, 2019.
Who: based on the previous years’ experience, we are estimating to have about 100 participants: 6-8 grade Marching Band Students, Parade Squad, and Chaperones.
Important Considerations:
1. Chaperones: The trip remains in the “Tentative” status, even though approved by the district, until we have enough chaperones. For “international trips” we strive to have 4:1 ideal ratio of students to chaperones, 8:1 maximum, which means we will need about 20 chaperones (minimum 12). Currently about 10 parents expressed interest.
If you would like to ensure our children’s trip by volunteering, please contact us ASAP at kingstonmsbb@google.com, or text 360-813-8334, and/or attend the upcoming Boosters Meeting on Wednesday, February 6, 6h00 pm.
2. Commitment Letters: coming home next week.
3. Payment Schedule: the cost of the trip is $350 per student, $320 per adult. Payments of $100 each are due by: February 15; March 15; April 15 ($150 or $120 respectively), April’s deposit is nonrefundable. Checks payable to KMSBB, you can mail them to: KMSBB P.O.Box 1312 Kingston, WA 98346
4. Scholarships: we understand that in these trying times some, if not many are finding it hard to make ends meet. Please contact us to apply for a partial scholarship. Our current policy allows us to fund as much as 50% of the trip cost for students in need, and we were able to grant six scholarships last year!
