Start to 2018-2019

Happy New Year, KMS Band Families!

How has your summer been?

In the effort to get back on track for the 2018 – 2019 school year, please consider the following upcoming dates and activities:

We 09/05 6:00 – 7:00 pm – KMS Band Boosters meeting. Yes it is the first day of school; no that is not why we are meeting. Traditionally, we meet every first Wednesday of a school month. Everyone is welcome!

Mo 09/10 6:00 – 7:30 pmOpen House. We will have a table with informational flyers, sign-up sheets, sweatshirt orders. Please stop by! Ask us about volunteer opportunities: your support determines how much we can do for our budding musicians.

Tu 09/11 5:00 – 8:00 pm – KMS Cavalier Band (that’s your kiddos and families!) BBQ Info Night. Ted Brown Music will be in attendance, to give you an opportunity to purchase or rent an instrument.

We will leave it there for now, but expect a lot more fun and information in the months to come, from seasonal concerts to band trips and performances, domestically and abroad!

Can’t wait to see you and hear from you!

Know someone who is great at leading, counting money, or taking notes? Is it you? Nominate, nominate, nominate! We have till April 11. Send us an email, short or long – your choice, all depending on how much you want that person in that position, right?

Now, details: below are the key responsibilities for each title, some straight from our bylaws.

Vice-President: think substitute – preside at the meetings in the absence of the president, “assume temporary responsibility of one (1) vacant position until such time as it may be filled.”

Secretary: take minutes of the meetings, present minutes at the next meeting, handle correspondence (think kingstonmsbb@gmail.com ), prepare newsletter, maintain contacts list.

Treasurer: maintain funds and the bank account, make deposits, maintain non-profit status and business license, report at meetings.

Trip Coordinator: head trip planning, report at meetings, work with the treasurer.

In addition to the five official voting executive members we have optional but extremely important other positions:

Uniform Coordinator

Please get back to us with any and all suggestions! Thanks a million!

Send a Greeting Card!

Tired of those pajama sets from the grandparents? Have a friend or a neighbor who always compliments your child’s playing the instrument, or the one who always sends something on holidays? It may not be too late to send a heavy hint. And even if it is too late, earmark this idea for the next season, or maybe even a birthday!
We did some research, took some pictures for you, and posted it all here.  Three steps: 1. choose the picture(s), 2. choose how to print, 3. write your appeal and send!
1. Pictures: we have some pictures in our Gallery for you to choose from, or you might have a better one of your own. A picture of your student(s), with a big grin and the instrument in her/his hands? Use it, and/or share it with us!
2. Print:  Mail & Print , Rite Aid, or Walmart are just a few local options. With Mail&Print you can create your own card or ask them. You can even copy and paste the text, if pretty handwriting is not your strength. Rite Aid offers photo printing, with some customization options, and you can get it done in minutes as long as you brought your photos on a digital device with a USB input. Walmart offers prints that you can upload from anywhere. Here is an example of what you get for $0.40 a card. Pickup in store. Screenshot from 2017-12-12 12-11-47  3. “Dear Grandma, Merry Christmas from me and my band! Please don’t worry about a gift for me this year. Rather, consider a donation into my band account, because my biggest wish this year is to go to Disney Performing Arts! Yours truly, Munchkin.”
Have fun. Let us know if you need anything. And hurry: only 13 days to Christmas!
